Google Home Arrives in Canada

After months of preparation, Google Home is finally available for purchase in Canada. Google's virtual assistant speaker is the first device of its kind that lands in America's northern neighbor. The device was listed for pre-order for the last three weeks.

Google's assistant comes localized for both Canadian English, and what is even more important, Canadian French. The device comes with some caveats though. Unlike in the U.S., the Home speaker is available only in three base options, and currently, you can only obtain the grey version and other colors are listed as "coming soon". The device does not support multi-user at the moment, but Google plans to fix it in one of the upcoming software updates.

Google Home allows its users to control music playback, stream video to Chromecast devices connected to the TV or create a multi-room network. Moreover, the speaker can control some IoT devices.

Some users expressed their concerns about privacy. According to Google, the device only starts listening to anything after the trigger commands, which are "Ok Google" or "Hey Google." while the rest is supposedly ignored.

The device is already available for purchase on select vendors like Bell, Best Buy, Fido, Indigo, London Drugs, Rogers, Staples, The Source, Telus, Visions, and Walmart. If you didn't manage to pre-order from Best Buy, you won't get a free Chromecast. Sorry. Finally, the Google Home is also available to buy for 179 CAD straight from the Google Store.
