How do I go about unrooting my rooted(?!) N910C for marshmallow OTA?

I've wanted to get the 6.0.1 update which is (supposed to be) ready for my N910C at this point, but I found this...

Ahh, okay, dumb me, didn't know that rooted devices weren't allowed to get OTA updates now.
So I looked up a guide to unroot my phone (dumb me still thought I had root) and I found something that involves going into SuperSU and selecting the option "Full Unroot" but as soon as I got into SuperSU it gave me this error

The root just disappeared by itself

So now I'm in a bit of a tough spot since my phone is considered rooted by the software but I can't even use this root for anything practical, nor do I know how to unroot it while it's causing this problem.
I just want to somehow get the Marshmallow OS for this phone rooted or unrooted, and not brick the thing while I'm going there. Should I just try to use this "Smart Switch" thing or it will be problematic? Any advice?
I know questions like this were probably asked 2000 times here (and I did search) so I'd not like to waste any of your time with direct assistance, if anyone can point me at any threads or links that will guide me to fix these 2 issues I'll be very happy. Thanks in advance.
