Is it possible to move data to thumb drive on firetv??

Hi chaps....
A rather quick question, As we all know the 1st gen firetv has a minimal amount of memory to be used for apps ect....

Unfortunately after a recent service provider upgrade I stupidly left the firetv on, even though I was using opendns to block updates, my new service had a change of ip address and my firetv got updated,... now for some this would not be a problem,.... but for me it's been ****e,.... horrible banners on top of screen,.... and worst of all, advertising before films start... not good for a prime user.

But there was one saving grace... I could now use the usb port to move some data off the unit to free up some space.
So I started with a few apps... no problem there,.. even Dead Trigger 2 moved most of its 50mb + over to the thumb drive.
So I thought I would give Asphalt 8 airborne a go.... initial install 58mb... extra download 1.5gb,..... now the only part that I can move is the 58mb.... wtf... why on earth can we only move just 58mb,..... surely it makes sense to have the ability to move 1.5gb .
So I just wanted to know chaps is there anyway of being able to shift this extra data or possibly sideload to firetv and then move to usb.
Also Is it possible to move kodi to firetv and would it still work correctly,.. or does it need to be available only from firetv?.
Thanks in advance chaps for any help / advice.....
Such a pity I can't root,.. as I believe it would solve a lot of problems. oh well..
