8.9 and windows 10 connection error

I'm hoping someone can help.

I've just bought a new [old] Samsung 8.9 tablet from ebay and it's in great condition. I've been using a Tesco Hudl2 until recently but wanted to go back to one of my favourite tablets, hence the 8.9.

Now, when I connect it to my Windows 10 PC, I get an error message pop-up in the bottom corner saying

USB evice not recognised.....The last USB device you connected to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it.

And in Device Manager it lists it as...... Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Does anyone have any ideas. The Tablet performs perfectly, and does connect to KIES via WiFi without issue, but I want to transfer some large files across to it in the form of Comic books and movies and basically use it as a USB HDD device like I can with my LG G4 phone.

I have tries connecting it to several of my USB ports, (both USB 2 and USB 3 without success.

If no-one can help, would an OTG cable be the best option as I am in the process of ordering one of these anyway as I only have the 16Gb version.
