X98 Air only has a 3 pin audio jack, not a 4 pin one, so if you plug a headset with in-line mic in, sound is distorted. It only plays normally if you hold the mic button in which grounds the mic pin...
UNBELIEVABLE !!! I can't believe I've not seen anyone mention it before because it's such an absolute bizarre thing to cheap-out on in manufacturing. You have a Retina screen, and a headphone port from the first Walkman in the 1980s....
I can't get my head around it... I mean, you see the Chinese leaving things like gyro out on phones or other things... BUT THIS????
